Instead of reading fiction at random, I'd like to catch up with best fiction ever written in the last 3 or 4 decades

My personal favorite is the First King of Shannara. It is the prequal too & currently the first sequential book of the Shannara series by Terry Brooks. The entire series is excellent, but this book is the best & is also the first in sequence so itwill rope you in to the series quickly.
