In winter in New York do museums and department stores have cloak rooms to put coats, umbrellas etc so you don't have to carry them around with you. If so is there a cost?

Answer by DON W
Museums generally do. Department stores do not.

Where you find them in museums, some are free, some have a small cost, and some have a voluntary cost. Sorry that there's no single answer.
