How can I watch tv and sporting events on my pc via internet?

I don't watch a lot of tv, but I do have a few shows and sporting events I like to watch. Is there a way i can watch these on my pc via internet? I have a very nice monitor and want to save money by not having a cable tv bill every month. Is there a free or at least cheap way to watch tv shows/sporting events via the internet?

Well this is a common misconception. You can't just turn on your PC and watch TV. What you can do is find networks like Sci-Fi channel, A&E, even some of the big names like NBC and ABC that put their shows on the internet. It's becoming more and more a norm then it used to be.
